Detain X and Serotonin

Question:
Hi Dr. Ringold. I purchased your supplement Detain X after reading through your web site. I have a question. After the purchase, I thought that I should get tested for my serotonin levels before I start taking the Detain X supplement. The lab that did the blood test said that the normal level of serotonin is 50 - 200 . I scored a 207. However I do suffer from PE where I only last one to two minutes at most when having intercourse. When your web site says low serotonin levels can be a cause of PE what are the tests considering a low level? Does a blood test for serotonin provide accurate results for what is taking place in the brain? It appears that having high levels of serotonin can cause other medical issues. If I do take your supplement, when should I worry about having away to high level of serotonin? Thanks for your time

Answer:
Serum serotonin levels are not a very good indicator of brain serotonin levels. I have seen patients with normal serotonin levels many times who benefit greatly from raising the overall serotonin level. I agree that we do not want it to get too high; however, the supplement is highly unlikely to do that. I would urge your to keep using the supplement. If you would have any side effects in my experience they would always go away quickly upon cessation of the supplement. I have never had a single person on DETAIN X who had any lasting side effect after stopping it so I do not consider trial runs troubling at all. The problem of PE is worth whatever small risk that exists for a potential side effect. Please give it a good try and see if your problem improves. I would not worry about the level of your serum serotonin. I hope this helps you with your decision. Good luck..... Sincerely, Warren J. Ringold, MD
